Holocaust Centre of New Zealand
Local

The Holocaust Centre of New Zealand is the nation’s leading organisation dedicated to Holocaust education, remembrance, and human rights awareness. Operating across Aotearoa, the Centre preserves the memory of the Holocaust to teach the universal lessons of history, combating antisemitism, racism, and social prejudice in all its forms. HCNZ supports educators and secondary schools nationwide by providing comprehensive pedagogical resources, curriculum-aligned lesson plans, and regional outreach programs. Through engaging exhibitions, public seminars, and digital initiatives, the Centre challenges the public to think critically about social responsibility, discrimination, and the impact of bystander behaviour. By honouring the stories of survivors and refugees who found a home in New Zealand, the Holocaust Centre inspires individuals to foster a more tolerant, empathetic, and just society.

Session 1

Film Screening: We Were Just Children

We Were Just Children is a compelling film featuring intimate portraits of Holocaust survivors who rebuilt their lives in Aotearoa New Zealand. Through powerful exchanges between survivors and New Zealand teenage interviewers, and using thoughtful AI storytelling, the film brings to life precious testimony of memory, resilience, and quiet heroism.

Designed for young people, it connects past stories to the present and reminds us why standing up early against antisemitism, hatred, and prejudice, is everyone's responsibility.
