Gene Sorkin
NEW ZEALAND

Gene Sorkin, Pharm. D., originally trained and worked as a clinical pharmacist for 5 years before putting that all behind him to move into the wondrous world of medical publishing. As the Editor of clinical pharmacotherapeutic journals for over 40 years in publications such as Drugs, Disease Management and Health Outcomes, and currently the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, he has essentially acted as a “gatekeeper” to what appears in the medical literature concerning the safe and effective use of drugs.  However, he believes his most significant contribution to civilization is his abiding love and passion for classic film comedies from the 1920s through the 1940s, especially the wonderful films of Laurel and Hardy. He feels that having created and hosted the 21st International Laurel and Hardy Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA in 2018 will undoubtedly be his greatest legacy to mankind. During this year’s Limmud he hopes to bring new attention to the underappreciated Jewish humour in the silent films of Max Davidson.

Hear and discuss (and don’t be shy in your opinions) about the termination of his studio contract, and why it was contentious in light of the moral values of that time period. Roll’ em!
