Ester Haver
NEW ZEALAND
Esther Haver is a proud Kiwi and the younger daughter of the late Ruth and Sol Filler. She learnt at a young age from her parents the benefits of voluntary work in the community. She worked at Kadimah College for 9½ years as administrator and was involved in the Australian Maccabi Jewish Carnivals for 16 years, including holding 2 of them here in Auckland. Following that, she was the organiser for March of the Living, until Covid and then 7th October put a halt to that.
Now Chair of the Governing Committee of Shalom Court in St Johns, she also volunteers in Auckland prisons and is a Restorative Justice facilitator. Her talk will discuss some of the cases she has faced and the people she has met through this interesting work. Added to that, being a very proud hands on grandmother is important to her. She looks forward to meeting some of you at her talk.

SUNDAY 2.40-3.40pm
Community work in Aotearoa prisons and Restorative Justice in Auckland: Giving back to the community through a Jewish survival perspective
In this session, I will talk about the 6 thinking hats critical thinking programme that I run in four Auckland jails. I will also discuss my Restorative Justice work, dealing with standard as well as family violence cases, which provides a chance to repair the harm that has been done. I will give examples of the work I do, and I find many people are intrigued at this work. For me, it’s about giving back to the community.
